5 White Lies That Keep Every Relationship Alive

By FHM Editor

Forget what every couples therapist on the planet has to say, guys. Sometimes little white lies can be the very thing keeping your relationship afloat. Now, notice how we said white lies. We’re not talking about affairs or money troubles, we’re talking about the common trials and tribulations of everyday life. It’s completely healthy for two people who have been together long term to not hide, but let’s say, shield each other from certain things.

To any ladies reading along, don’t worry, this isn’t about finding ways to cover up bad behavior. Quite the opposite, actually. It’s about sparing your relationship from the certain BS that takes away from your love and happiness. Hell, let’s go ahead and add sanity in there too. After all, nothing tears a relationship to pieces faster than a couple of petty arguments.

6 Times It’s Ok To Lie To Your Girlfriend

You can take it or leave it, but, rest assured, incorporating these white lies into your relationship can (and will) rejuvenate your love life.

How You Feel About Their Friends

The older you get, the more you’ll start to recognize that most friendships come and go. When it comes to your partner’s friends, it’s just not worth starting an argument. Unless this particular friend (or group of friends) is causing a huge riff in your relationship, just keep it to yourself. Smile, interact and take comfort in knowing that there’s a strong chance they’ll grow apart.

The Complaining Game

It can be exhausting having to listen to your partner complain — especially when it comes to work. Here’s the thing, though: being a partner is nothing if not a selfless act. If it makes your S/O feel good to vent, let them! Even if you want to scream, “Shut up and get a different job!” don’t. At the end of the day, you’ll be better off because of it.

If They’ve Gained Weight

Unless your partner has suddenly gained 30 pounds in a month, there’s sincerely no need to mention that their packing a little extra jiggle around the middle. It’s commonplace for people to gain some weight when they’ve been in a relationship for a long time. Instead of thinking of it as, “letting themselves go” think of it settling comfortably into domesticity.

Their Cooking

If you’re partner is a kick-ass cook, good for you! If they’re not, well, things can get a little difficult come dinnertime. Thing is, someone making you a meal is a really nice gesture. It would just be cruel to mock them for it. Even if the dish is gross AF, eat it with a smile on your face. No matter what, it was cooked with love, right? That’s what matters — also, you can always just run to McDonald’swhen they’re sleeping.

When They Give You A Gift

Similar to someone cooking you a meal, someone buying you a gift is meant as a kind gesture. Returning that gesture with anything other than gratitude makes you a big ol’ jerk. Even if your lady hands you a pair of floral socks, just pretend to like them! Chances are you haven’t always been the world’s best gift giver either.

Well, guys, there you have it. Nothing in the list above is life-altering — just a bunch of little things that will prevent a fight and subsequently, a headache. Go ahead and skip right to the make up sex. You can thank us later.
